Great essay and it is telling that after the American Revolution, as opposed to the French, Russian, Chinese, N. Korean, Venezuelian, etc. etc. ad. nauseum, the winners didn't cleanse the opposition with executions and gulags. You were welcome to leave, or welcome to stay, because they brought it back to what it ought to be.

Yep, great point, although I could definitely do some more reading on the treatment of American loyalists during and right after the war. Bit of a blind spot for me currently.

Great post. The major, most significant difference between “the Left” and “the Right” is the left’s belief in the perfectability of man. Conservatives accept and respect that human nature hasn’t changed since the Garden of Eden, with systems of checks and balances that bring out our best.

Very interesting. I agree with everything except your statement that “the support for political violence has alarmingly risen across the political spectrum.” Other than an extremely small lunatic fringe, conservatives do not support political violence — at least not yet. Rather, the support for political violence in America is almost entirely from the left. And this isn’t just the fringe — the mainstream Democrat party is increasingly calling for and actively supporting (or at the least, failing to denounce) the current and increasing violence, lawlessness, and alarming assault on federal law enforcement. The left’s constant “protests” turning into violent and destructive insurrection has become a matter of course over the past 30 years — especially the past year. And this lawless behavior is not protected by the 1st amendment. Again, the right does not condone such behavior, but if the left continues with it unabated, this will eventually change. You can only attack, bully, and injure people so long before the other side says “that’s enough” and fights back.
